We aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by protecting them from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Beaconfields Primary School Safeguarding Policy Purpose and Aims:

• Building resilience - raising awareness of child protection issues and equipping children with the language and skills needed to keep them safe. Establishing a safe environment in which children can learn and develop within an ethos of openness;
• Supporting vulnerable pupils - supporting pupils who have been abused, have witnessed violence towards others or may be vulnerable to abuse
• Preventing unsuitable people from working with children - ensuring we practice safe recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with children. 

Our Ethos:

• The child’s welfare is of paramount importance. We are a child-centered school.
• We maintain a professional attitude of ‘it could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned. When concerns about the welfare of a child, staff members will always act in the best interests of the child. This policy has been developed inconjunction with our school culture of prevention, protection and support.
• Our school will continue to maintain an ethos where pupils feel secure, are encouraged to talk, are listened to and feel safe. Children at our school are encouraged to talk freely with any staff member at our school if they are worried or concerned about something. Safety and the Curriculum

At Beaconfields Primary, the children's welfare is of paramount importance. Our ethos is to ensure the children feel safe, are able to talk about their concerns and are listened to by all staff members. During the course of the academic year, staff raise awareness of 'safety' and work to ensure children have the knowledge, language and skills required in order to feel safe. Through our jigsaw PSHE curriculum and school assemblies, we continue to maintain a safe environment so that the children can learn and develop within an ethos of openness. The themes of  'personal safety', 'online safety', 'road safety' and 'bullying' are addressed throughout the school year.  Children are taught about the safe and sensible use of the internet; how to keep themselves safe and what to do if they have any worries or concerns. Children in Nursery and Key Stage 2 have the opportunity to take part in the 'Bike-ability' cycling scheme. During 'Anti-bullying week', pupils are able to discuss issues and scenarios through  literacy, drama and art activities. Children engaged in the NSPCC Speak Out, Stay Safe and Pants are Private learning. 

• Parents' Pack for PANTS message The NSPCC have been broadcasting a TV advert to raise awareness of how parents can help their younger children keep safe from child sexual abuse. There is now a pack for parents to use, to encourage them to have a conversation that many might feel uncomfortable about having.
